D. Stanley Barnes is a graduate of Shelbyville High School and holds both the BS and MS degrees from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Mr. Barnes began his teaching career at Gibbs High School in Knox County before moving to Etowah, Tennessee. After two years at Etowah he returned to Knoxville to direct the Holston High School Band.
During his seven-year tenure at Holston the band received numerous awards for both marching and concert band and was considered one of the top grade six programs in the East Tennessee Region. In 1970, Mr. Barnes accepted the Director of Bands position at Clinton High School in Clinton, TN.
While under his direction the Clinton Band was selected to march in the world famous Macy's Parade in New York City appearing on all national television networks, and was selected as a feature band on ABC's "Good Morning America". Clinton was also selected for and won the "Greatest Bands in Dixie" marching contest in New Orleans, LA. and represented the state of Tennessee as they traveled to England's New Year's Day London Parade.
With hard work and outstanding leadership the Clinton Band soon began to establish itself as one of the south's premier symphonic band programs. The band performed at the Tennessee Music Educators Association Convention and two National Band Directors Association Conventions. Perhaps the most prstigious event for the Clinton Band occurred in 1977 when the band performed at the Mid-West Band Clinic in Chicago, Il.
Mr. Barnes concluded his teaching career at Anderson County High School in Clinton, Tennessee where once again he directed this band to new levels of excellence. Mr. Barnes held numerous offices in the many professional organizations to which he belonged. He is a "Honorary Life Member" of the East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association and the Tennessee Secondary Schools Band Directors Association. He remains an active member of these associations and serves as a mentor to many of their directors, both young and old.

Mr. Perry Elliott is in his eighteenth year as director of the Elizabethton High School Band. Before arriving at Elizabethton, Elliott taught at Dobyns-Bennett High School (Kingsport), Unicoi County High School (TN), Dalton High School (GA), and Holston High School (Knoxville). He is a member of the Tennessee Bandmasters Association, East Tennessee School Band & Orchestra Association, the Tennessee Music Educators Association, and the Music Educators National Conference. Mr. Elliott is a graduate of East Tennessee State University and received his Masters degree from Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois. He has served on the Board of Directors of the ETSBOA on two occasions, is a member of Phi Beta Mu, Phi Mu Alpha, and Pi Kappa Lambda music fraternities, and served as an adjunct faculty member at ETSU in 1996. The National Band Association “Citation of Excellence” was awarded to Mr. Elliott in 1998 for his contributions to the instrumental music profession. He was Director of the Senior Band at the 1999 Carson-Newman Music Camp and is in demand as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the South. Mr. Elliott has received four citations from the Elizabethton City Schools for his dedicated work in the fine arts.

Jean Maclin has a BM degree in violin performance from the University of
Alabama. She also received an MA in Music Education from the University of
Alabama when she was chosen as the Most Outstanding Graduate Student in Music
Education. Teaching experience in public schools includes Alexandria, LA,
Augusta, GA, and Oak Ridge, TN. Her Oak Ridge orchestras received superior
ratings at competitions each year and the string program was expanded from a
small group of students to five large orchestras. After 32 years of teaching,
she has retired from the Oak Ridge Schools where she taught for 16 years at
Robertsville Middle and Linden Elementary Schools. As a private violin
instructor, she taught in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Winchester, Virginia.
In Tuscaloosa, Alabama, she helped create a string program in the public
schools. She was also an instructor in Music Education at the University of
Alabama.

Joel Tillman is in his fourth year as band director at Karns Middle School in Knoxville, TN and in his 20th year of his teaching career. His responsibilities with the Karns Band involves assisting with the marching band program and directing the Karns High Jazz Band.
Prior to coming to the Knox County System, Tillman taught for 6 years in the Harriman City School System where his main responsibilities rested with the development and promotion of the middle school band and co-directing the high school band with Mr. Mike Kincaid.
Prior to his tenure at Harriman, he taught in the Bradley County School System for 9 years and was teaching at Bradley Junior High School. There, he had two training bands, a Jazz Band, Woodwind ensemble, Brass Choir and competitive percussion ensemble. He also taught for 2 years at Hixson Junior High School.
An active clinician, Tillman has conducted the blue and red bands for ETSBOA, TSSBDA, the Hamilton County Honor Band, The Virginia District 7 Junior High Band, and the Tri Lakes Honor High School Band. He has been invited this year to conduct the Red Band for the All Middle Tennessee Junior High Band Clinic.
Tillman has a full performance experience. He performed regularly with the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera for ten seasons. He currently performs with the Knoxville Wind Symphony and has performed with the Oak Ridge Civic Orchestra.
He has been elected to or is a member of Phi Beta Mu, MENC, ETSBOA, and Professional Educators of Tennessee.
